Do you know how much RoDTEP, drawback and IGST refund your business has claimed?
Upload each shipping bill once and see what you claimed, what you received and what is still pending.
Contents
- RoDTEP, duty drawback and IGST refund are money owed to your business on every eligible shipment.
- The amounts claimed are on each shipping bill, but few owners can say the total claimed, received and pending.
- When the shipping bill is uploaded into your system, those amounts are recorded for each shipment without retyping.
Money that does not come from a buyer
When a buyer owes you money, someone chases it. There is an invoice, a due date and a name to call.
Refunds and incentives are different. IGST refund, duty drawback and RoDTEP are owed to you by the government. They are claimed through the shipping bill your CHA files, and paid into your bank account or credited to your customs account. Nobody sends you a reminder. Nobody calls when they are late.
So ask yourself a simple question: across all your shipments this year, how much have you claimed, how much have you received, and how much is still pending? Most owners cannot answer without a week of work from their team.
Why the numbers are hard to see
They sit on the shipping bill. Each shipping bill shows the drawback, RoDTEP and IGST for that shipment. To total them, someone must open every shipping bill and copy the figures.
The money arrives separately. Drawback and IGST refund come to your bank. RoDTEP comes as credit in the customs system. None of it arrives labelled with your invoice number.
Nobody owns it. The CHA files the shipping bill. Accounts sees the money arrive. Documentation made the invoice. The total sits between all three.
What it is worth
On a single shipment, incentives and refunds may look small. Across a year of shipments, they add up to an amount large enough to matter to your cash flow, and sometimes to your profit.
The rates and rules for these schemes change from time to time. That makes it more important, not less, to know what you have actually claimed on each shipment.
Recording it once, from the shipping bill
The simplest way to see these numbers is to stop copying them by hand. When the CHA sends the final shipping bill, upload the file into the same system that holds the order and the invoice. The drawback, RoDTEP and IGST claimed are then recorded against that shipment automatically.
From there you can see:
- the amount claimed for each shipment
- totals by month, buyer and product
- what has been received and what is still pending
- shipments where nothing was claimed, which may be worth checking with your CHA
How Expodite helps. Upload the shipping bill file into Expodite and it fills in the RoDTEP, duty drawback and IGST claimed for that shipment, with no retyping. You see what was claimed, by shipment and by month, next to the order and invoice it belongs to.
See shipping bill import and checksQuestions to ask your team
- How much RoDTEP, drawback and IGST refund did we claim last financial year?
- How much of it has been received, and how much is pending today?
- What is the oldest pending amount, and why is it pending?
- Are there shipments where RoDTEP or drawback was not claimed? Why?
- Who checks the shipping bill figures against our records, and when?
Quick answers
- Where can I see the RoDTEP and drawback claimed on a shipment?
- On the shipping bill filed by your CHA. To see totals across shipments, record each shipping bill's figures in one system.
- Why is it important to track export incentives separately?
- Because they are paid separately from your buyers' payments and nobody chases them. Without tracking, pending or missed amounts go unnoticed.
